Feature Suggestion: Option for Attendees to Turn Off "Doorbell" Sound in Meetings

Putting this suggestion here for improving the Zoom meeting experience. As an attendee, the "doorbell" sound that plays when someone joins or leaves the meeting can be disruptive, especially in large meetings where people are coming and going frequently.

While I know this feature helps hosts stay aware of who’s joining, it would be amazing if attendees could have the option to turn off this sound for themselves. This small adjustment could help reduce distractions and create a more focused environment, particularly when attending multiple meetings throughout the day.

Has anyone else felt the same? I'd love to hear your thoughts and if others think this would be a helpful feature!

As an audio and broadcast engineer I can tell you that computer audio can be very complicated. It is not clear what you or the host are doing. Only the host and co-hosts get an audible notification. All other participants would not hear anything unless the host or co-host is sending the audio by mistake. It is also not clear what device and OS you are using.

Hi

There is basically a setting that let's you decide if that sound will be played or not 😉

Yes, familiar with this as a host, but is there an option as an attendee? If a solution not in place, would be happy for Zoom to find one!

Yes, totally agree! The doorbell sound can be distracting in big meetings. An option for attendees to mute it on their side would definitely improve the experience.

In the zoom installation directory (on linux at least) you'll find the files dingdong.pcm and dingdong1.pcm. I removed these files and was finally able to kill the doorbell chime.
