that the "solution" to getting zoom to stop freezing/lagging is turning off built in Zoom features? Are no engineers seeing this as a problem?

BTW, tried everything ever listed in these forums to get zoom to stop lagging every 5 minutes. nothing worked.

Video lagging is most often caused by using WiFi instead of ethernet, not enough CPU power (certain features such as virtual backgrounds or effects need more CPU power), insufficient internet bandwidth. Since you did not state anything about your connection or hardware it is not possible to assess actual possible causes. I do multiple Zoom meetings every week and have no lag issues even on a $200 Windows 10 Pro i7 computer connected via ethernet to a 10 Mbps upload internet connection.

I use ethernet, not WiFi, still the same issue... WIN10 Pro 64 with massive Harddrive and maxed out RAM (16GB), still lagging and always saying good bye...

Ridiculous...

I have zero issues with wifi except for Zoom. Even on an ethernet cable it lags. Even on a different wifi network. Only using about 45% of CPU.

Same here, I use Ethernet, now WiFi for my PC (not a laptop) and I can stream movies on three different TVs at the same time in the house, yet one zoom meeting only (when nothing else is on) is laggy and does break up sometimes... "Funny" is that most of the time that happens when I am the host, not when I am a guest... And I even use the paid version of Zoom... When I do a google meet meeting, I have no issues at all... I do not need or want all the added stuff like AI and what not, so it would be great to have an option to turn all of that stuff I do not need or want off so it does not need any CPU or internet power for stuff I do not need.

I am having these same issues and it's September 2025.  I was forced to get the paid version because the free version didn't have long enough meetings and they found a way to block you from reconnecting after 40 mins.  The paid version has WAY too much stuff on it I don't need and there is no in-between alternative.  I have had MANY instances of freezing and dropped calls and have been in contact with their Tech for hours over several days and now engineering is involved and STILL no solution. The only thing that seems to work is turning off the AVG Antivirus program or turning off the screen. Neither is ideal. Turning off the screen is not an option b/c I use Zoom to meet with work clients. This has been very disruptive to my work! And Zoom doesn't seem to have a clue as to diagnosis or solution.  I'm very disappointed with Zoom.  It used to be so good during and after COVID and now it's been a huge headache.

Hi Mark,

I am assuming you are a Zoom employee?   I am still in the process of testing Zoom.  It seems that the likely culprit(s) is anti-virus software's interface with Zoom.  I had AVG's "enhanced" features turned on after a recent security scare with scammers through email, so I activated a suite of 6 AVG features that they had offerred (and I paid for!) months ago but I had forgotten about them and then activated them.  This was prior to the Zoom issues I started experiencing.  MANY hours, days, and weeks later, with a Zoom tech and then a professional IT person I hired, the problem was STILL there! And this even AFTER I had my laptop completely reset to factory specs and eliminated AVG.    Then, just yesterday morning (Sept 14 '25) I got a pop up message from Window asking me to approve letting Zoom through the Windows Firewall!!  I clicked yes, then tested later that night on a poor internet connection at home (not fibre, not fancy speeds), and IT WORKED!  For over an hour.  No glitches, no error messages of an unstable internet connection, no freezing, no dropped call.  This was the FIRST TIME IN WEEKS that Zoom worked the way it had on my old laptop.  So....the ONLY difference so far??  My old laptop was on Windows 10.  My new laptop (that I got BEFORE all the Zoom issues) is on Windows 11.  I am still in the process of testing it at least 2 more times with people before I use it again for work with paying clients.  I suspect it's the antivirus software - AVG, Windows Firewall, b/c so far that's the only thing and last thing that was changed before a flawless Zoom session.

My question.....does Zoom know how ANTIVIRUS software affects Zoom?  Specifically, AVG & Microsoft on version 11?  I was told over and over it was my "internet connection and upload speed" but it was happening even at work when upload speed was at 190mbsp!

ridiculous yes! I hate it and it is not helping at all... Gets worse over time I feel... I am on ethernet with my PC and not on WiFi... And it works in the beginning, but then half way through the call all of a sudden it starts to stop working and then totally blanks out... And the messages I sent to zoom using the window that pops up did not do anything, no response, no nothing...

Hello community members,

I'm sorry for the inconvenience you experienced.

If your Zoom desktop app is freezing or lagging, here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Check System Requirements: Ensure your computer meets Zoom’s system requirements for optimal performance.

  2. Update Zoom: Make sure you are using the latest version of the Zoom app. You can check for updates in the Zoom app under your profile icon > "Check for Updates."

  3. Close Unnecessary Applications: Close any background applications that may be using up system resources, such as heavy programs or web browsers with many tabs open.

  4. Restart Zoom: Close the app completely and reopen it. Sometimes a fresh restart helps resolve temporary glitches.

  5. Check Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable internet connection. Poor internet connectivity can cause Zoom to freeze or lag.

  6. Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated graphics drivers can cause performance issues. Check if your graphics drivers are up to date.

  7. Disable Hardware Acceleration: In Zoom, go to Settings > Video > Advanced and disable "Hardware Acceleration." This can help with freezing or lagging issues.

  8. Clear Zoom Cache: Sometimes clearing the Zoom cache can resolve performance issues. Check this link on how to clear Zoom cache and cookies.

  9. Reinstall Zoom: If the issue persists, uninstall the Zoom app and reinstall it. This can help fix any corrupted files that may be causing issues.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, you can submit a ticket to our technical support for further troubleshooting.

Its very sad that my 2023 model i7 windows laptop lags so bad that it feels like 2012 device. It literally gets cooked with excessive heat in exhaust fans.

so i switched to 2023 model Mac Mini for all my zoom meetings and its working smooth.
So Zoom now needs high end hardwares like gaming PCs, no doubt!

All the updates and uninstall, reinstall, use this and that. I did it all, yet it still happens, but only from time to time, not every time. And also only when I am the host, not when I am a visitor/participant...

And all of that does not happen with Google Meet, including Meet with virtual background...

Video acceleration on/off is not even an option in the settings anymore...
