Dark video

Hello,

I set up zoom tonight an hour in advance of my meeting, all was fine. Five minutes before I went to jump on and the video was dark, almost impossible to see me.

This was my first meeting with a student for which I had prepared extensively for. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted my laptop. None of it works.

So frustrated and disappointed and meeting cancelled.

Does anyone have any advice please? Thank you.

Hi, @Suze1,

Sounds like you've taken some good first steps with re-installing.  But now that it still doesn't work, all we have to go on is that "it's dark".  More information please:

  • Was the attendee able to see you?  Were you able to see the attendee?
  • What type of computer or device (manufacturer, laptop/desktop, smart phone, tablet?)
  • Operating system and version
  • I'm assuming you've got the latest Zoom version installed; please confirm
  • Have you successfully used the camera in other applications?
  • If possible, give a screen shot of your Settings -> Video window.  No need for you to be in the picture, if you prefer not to be seen.  Here's mine as an example:

  • And a screen shot of your Background & Effects window:

With that information and images, I might be able to assist.

One lesson we all learn early -- as hopefully you have now -- is to always test your setup in advance, for any changes or anything new.  Never wait until you have a client on the call to try to figure out why something isn't working.

Let's see what we can figure out.
