Audio not working when sharing video or music such as Spotify

Can't find an answer anywhere here, so asking the community.

I have been using Zoom for several years, and over the past month or so the audio stopped working when sharing a video using 'Share Screen'.

I teach English 1-to-1 on Zoom, and often use YouTube videos as part of the lesson.

Before anyone asks, I have updated and reinstalled Zoom, and the problem is happening on both Windows and Mac.

I have "share sound" selected, and have tried using "optimise for video sharing" as well as not optimising (never used to need to do this)

I am using a Platronics mic and have this as the system audio, (as always) for mic and headphones.

I thought it might be a copyright thing, and tried it with Spotify, and it doesn't work with that either, nor does it with iTunes music.

It's really impacting my lessons, and it's annoying because I'm paying for Zoom yet I'm not getting what I need.

It's worked for years and suddenly it stopped working... I didn't change anything, and I really have tried all the solutions I can find online.

Any suggestions welcome!

Hi,

It might be that Zoom is only sharing audio from the Default Desktop audio device. If the audio from your video source (like YouTube, Spotify, or iTunes) is going through a different device, or if the volume on the default device is muted or very low, it might not be heard by others.

You can check this by looking at your Volume Mixer application (on Windows) to see these settings.

FYI You will want to make sure the audio output for your video/audio source is set to the default System output

Thanks for your ideas, but none of these worked for me.

same thing has happened to me.... it started since my Windows 11 update. I know you said it happens on your Mac too though? In general, I know a lot of people who have started having issues with this. I don't have any solutions but hope Zoom figures this out soon, or I'll have to change what I use.

Hi Community Members!

Our engineering team has fixed several issues that may be related to what you are currently experiencing in version Version 6.4.1 (51520). Is this the version you are currently experiencing this issue on?

That sounds really frustrating, especially since it used to work fine. Since you’ve already reinstalled Zoom and checked the basic settings, try going to Zoom Settings → Audio → Advanced, and make sure Stereo audio  and  Original sound for musicians  are turned on.

When sharing your screen, select  Share sound  and try Computer Audio Only  first to see if it plays correctly. Also, double-check your spotify sound  system output — sometimes Zoom switches it to another device without notice. Restart after changing these settings often helps too.
