Zoom Events: Can a presenter present through their browser

Hi Zoom Community,

 

If a Presenter is unable to use the zoom app (blocked by their organisation) to present can they present through their browser in Zoom Events?

 

If this is possible, how do we go about setting this up?

Hi @RichardOne, welcome to Zoom Community! Yes, a presenter can present in Zoom Events using only their web browser if the app is blocked.

When they click the session link, they just need to select the "Join from Your Browser" option that appears after the prompt to launch the app fails. They will have fewer features and potential stability issues compared to the desktop app:

  • Screen Share: Limited access to sharing specific windows; often must share the entire screen or a browser tab.

  • Virtual Backgrounds: May require a green screen or not work reliably.

  • Video Quality: Can be lower and less stable.

The best practices are to make sure that "Join from your browser" is enabled in your settings, have your presenter use Chrome or Edge, and conduct a quick test call beforehand to practice screen sharing. Here are a two resources to check out about this feature:

Join from browser works when the session within a Zoom Event is set up in a Zoom Meeting style but it doesn't when it is a Zoom Webinar style.

 

We have just run a multi session, multi day event with a sessions comprising of a number of workshops (Zoom Meetings) and a smaller number of keynote speeches (Zoom Webinars). The speaker who was unable to present through the browser for his keynote was able to present a workshop.

@RichardOne, it's definitely difficult to operate within the Zoom Events space as a speaker/presenter from a browser.

 

For one point, if you have Backstage enabled, the browser-based special role participants can't join Backstage, and will appear "on stage" (which Zoom calls "in the Webinar", except I contend that even the people in Backstage are technically "in the Webinar" too).

 

The Zoom Events support article "System limitations for Zoom Events hosts" doesn't list "web browser" in the Requirements section, which heavily implies that "if it works, great, but if it doesn't, sorry."

I understand that some people will only have access to one computer provided by their organization, but in general I recommend that anyone joining a Zoom Event in a Special Role use the desktop client or the mobile app (Zoom Workplace), even if they have to borrow or use someone else's device.  In these cases, it's often advisable to present their slides for them, as this particular situation introduces a lot of variables, and stress on the presenter. Anything we can do to facilitate their presentation under the circumstances is well worth the effort, in my opinion.
