AI Companion talking throughout the meeting

I'm not sure what I did but for the last few weeks every time I am on Zoom, a voiceover announces when each guest in the meeting is sharing their screen, or has entered and left the meeting.

I searched for how to remove AI companion in Zoom and followed the steps but my account showed that it was never enabled..???

Is there another reason why my Zoom is announcing everything that happens in the meeting? It's embarrassing and I don't want to have to switch to another meeting provider but it's coming off as unprofessional.

Also, when posting this in the Zoom Community, your topic fields have not been updated to include AI companion in case you want to troubleshoot issues that arise with that.

Hi @joelyx - Hope you're doing well.

It sounds like the screen reader or accessibility voice notifications have been turned on in your Zoom client, rather than anything related to the AI Companion. When this feature is active, Zoom will audibly announce events such as participants joining or leaving, or when someone starts sharing their screen.

Here’s how you can fix it:

Step-by-Step: Turn Off Voice Announcements in Zoom

1. Check Zoom’s Accessibility Settings

  1. Open the Zoom desktop app.
  2. Click your profile picture (top right) → Settings.
  3. Go to Accessibility.
  4. Look for “Screen Reader Alerts” or “Enable screen reader alerts”.
  5. Uncheck any boxes that announce meeting events (e.g., “Participant has joined/left,” “Screen sharing started”).

If you see an option like “Always announce”, switch it to Off.

Hope this helps!
