Stereo recording PLEASE!

Please, please, please allow stereo recording of meetings. PLEASE! I'm sure Zoom is aware that at least tens, if not hundreds of thousands of musicians use Zoom; stereo sound for music is crucial. This is 2022 ... we can send robots to Mars, why can't we record Zoom meetings in stereo? Thanks.

I cannot agree more! Voice sounds like an aluminum tin!

Hi @DoctoraMaru @frednow ! I just realized you didn't receive a reply to your post. Please check out the following knowledge base article and let me know if it helps 🙂 Enabling stereo audio .

I think this might be what you both are looking for.

Thanks for your reply, Carla. However, I don’t think you understand the request: stereo sound when recording a Zoom meeting.

From the article you linked to:

Recordings and the Zoom mobile app don't support stereo audio (audio will be mono).”

I already know how to enable stereo sound in the meeting; I want to be able to record stereo sound as well.

In another post i have read that it is not allowed in Zoom to record stereo. You can listen stereo but not to record.  Anyway you are lucky , i cannot ever make my music listened in stereo for my students: it is in mono and of low quality

I have been asking this for years and the people at Zoom don’t seem to understand how important this is for a lot of us.

    STEREO RECORDINGS PLEASE!!!!

WE know how to activate stereo audio in meetings but MUSICIANS NEED STEREO RECORDINGS !!!!

Too big ? Make it optional! Allow it only for local recordings.. there's absolutely NO REASON for not allowing it

Actually, the current version of Zoom does record in stereo, at least for a local recording to your computer.  I don't know about the recording on the server, or a recording on a smartphone or tablet.

I’ve been asking continually for 5 years now. They never understand what we mean. They keep telling me that theye is a stereo hi if feature now: but I keep telling them that the problem is the RECORDINGS!!!!  Thanks for carrying on!

I did mean the recording.  Last month I recorded an event in my personal computer and the audio is in stereo, for those segment in which the source was in stereo, of course.

Strange. This what they say on their website:

Additionally, any recordings of the meeting or webinar, regardless of which app version used, will not support stereo audio, and will be saved as mono audio

Well, perhaps they didn't get around to update the documentation.  I just checked that recording to make sure, and it was in stereo.

    Hello there,

Thanks for the suggestion! However, Zoom Community is not a place where feature requests are tracked, so I highly encourage you to submit this request as feedback.

You can check this article on how to submit one.

Thank you and have a good day.

STOP THE PRESSES.  I ran a workshop this past weekend for songwriters, sharing audio recordings, and SOME of my meeting recordings are actually in stereo!!!

So this morning I tested a simple meeting - two devices at my location:  the 1st sharing stereo audio and the 2nd recording the meeting.  The recorded audio is in STEREO.

What I have not been able to explain is why some of the recordings from my weekend meetings are still in MONO.  Recognizing that Zoom only renders video AFTER the meeting, and makes some decisions based on factors from meeting participants (ever see what happens to your video recording when a participant shares their entire 4K screen?), I wonder if audio settings from contributing participants might affect the meeting recording.  I'll have to keep on testing.

But have hope.  Perhaps Zoom Stereo recording has finally arrived...

    That's good news – perhaps...

Can you say anything about the quality of the recordings in your tests?  The other issue that bothered me, in addition to the mono recording of a stereo stream, was the bad quality of the recording.

Hi @GAR.  The quality of the recordings is acceptable for archive/replay purposes.  Certainly not the highest fidelity, but on par with any compressed audio format.  Would I use it to make tracks for recording/release.  No, but it sounds more or less up to the quality that was broadcast in the original meeting.

    Hi,

It does indeed, AT LAST, work. HOWEVER, after a couple of tests: when recording the meeting on the cloud: it is still in MONO! You have to record on your computer to get a stereo recording of your meeting. Please confirm.

    Cheers!

Hi @slacasse .  I always record to my computer, so I can confirm that my results are only for local recording.  I'll believe you that recording to the cloud may still be in mono.
