July 15th changes

I'm not clear about these changes.

I have a paid account that I have used during covid19 for meetings with family. We live in a radius of about 15 miles and occasionally I am not available to host a meeting. If one of my son's, neither of which have a paid account, was to log in as host, will that meeting now be limited to 40 minutes?

Hi @DWH1

The maximum meeting duration is determined by the license type of the original host of the meeting. If an account does not have a license, the free account can host meetings for the duration of 40 minutes.

Hey, @DWH1, there's another alternative.

A work-around for occasional use is the Host Key approach; details are here in this Zoom Support article:

https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/205172555-Using-your-host-key

This involves setting up the meeting with NO Waiting Room and with Join Before Host enabled (usually set to no more than 15 minutes before), and providing the HOST KEY from your account to a trusted person who can enter the meeting you set up and become host of the meeting in your stead.

This is the answer to my exact question!! Thank you!! I host an AA meeting every morning. My Chair people (different everyday) come in and claim host. Our meetings last an hour so the 40 minute limit had concerned.

My understanding is that unlicensed Zoom users already had a 40-minute limit on the meetings they host - it has worked this way for at least a year. But the FAQ (https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/5809097508109) only lists May 2, 2022 as the start date of this policy. What is actually changing here?

Hi @abedig3108

The 40-minute meeting duration for unlicensed Zoom users now includes 1:1 meetings, group meetings, and Personal Meeting Rooms.
