So when I play a sound file I can hear it but the person at the other end of the zoom can't,  My laptop  is  editing out the sound presumably to avoid feedback etc.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do the enable my soundfiles to be heard?

Thanks

There is a option called "share sound" , able it. your problem will solve .

Once you do Share Screen, from the Menu Bar, there are 2 ways to share your sound - one is to check the box for sharing sound while sharing your screen or you can click on the Advanced Tab on Share Screen and choose Computer Audio - this just shares your audio, without your screen.  PE teachers like this option if teaching exercises with music but students still need to see their video.

Here is a Support Page Help.
