Zoom and Windows 11

With the latest version installed, I am told that my machine does not support virtual backgrounds. The help page does not list W11 among supported operating systems! Will that be corrected on the W11 release date?

The changes made by the ISP seem to have worked. No more dropouts deep enough to cause trouble.

So now I have my backgrounds and can Zoom happily.

    Cheers

But that button to post it is still labelled 'Reply', not 'Post'.

    Hi @John-at-USQ

Was this an upgrade - did the same machine previously have Windows 10 and work with Virtual Backgrounds?

Otherwise, does the computer itself meet the minimum system requirements for Virtual Backgrounds?

    New latest machine

    • Zoom desktop client, version 5.2.0 or higher
    • Windows 7, 8, and 10 (64-bit)
    • Supported processors
      • Intel i3
        • 2 cores or higher
        • 5th generation or higher
      • Intel i5
        • 2 cores or higher
        • 3rd generation or higher

    But no mention of W11.

I think your software needs updating again! My version is 5.8

The same thing has happened to me. I am expecting this to be updated/fixed as soon as possible.

Are you running the 64-bit version of Zoom?

    https://zoom.us/client/5.8.0.1324/ZoomInstaller.exe?archType=x64

The official Windows 11 release date is October 5, 2021 - so you may not see any specific documentation until then.

First I must point out a major fault in this forum. When I opened the notification there was no prompt to sign in, so I thought that that was automatic. I wrote a long, and I hope helpful reply, and submitted it. I was taken to the login page, logged in, and that reply was lost.

    Not happy!

Unfortunately that link did not work for me! I even tried uninstalling Zoom first.

I am still convinced that somewhere in the code is a table of acceptable operating systems - and W11 is not among them!

Since this machine was able to jump Microsoft's high hurdle to install W11, I am sure that it is not deficient.

    Cheers

    And there's more!

After installing the linked version and finding that backgrounds were still unsupported, I checked for updates. That version was 5.8.0 and I was offered 5.8.1. I hoped that Mepemep's success was because Zoom had slipped in a sly fix, but I was disappointed.

    Still hoping,

I downloaded from the link provided and I was able to participate in my meeting successfully with a selected virtual background.  As I was closing down the app I checked to see what version I was on and I noticed that there was an update available.  I updated to 5.8.1 and started a new meeting and I was still able to use a virtual background.

Could you not get it to work?

Do you know if it's zoom not accepting the Processor?

Still not working. I do not think that it's the processor.

As I said, shared memory for the display might be the problem.

    I live in hope!

    Cheers

Friend has an Asus windows 10 laptop with the 7505 and gets the message saying the specs are not up to it. Which suggests Zoom perhaps do not recognise it, even though it's better than previous gen i3's that they allow ..

I am having the same problem, and in my case I believe Zoom is not accepting my processor, AMD Ryzen 3 3250U, 2.60 GHz.  In

    https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360043484511-Zoom-Virtual-Background-system-requirements

    it states:

    • AMD
      • 8 logical cores
      • 3.0Ghz or higher

I don't understand why they would have that requirement, when there is no similar requirement for Intel processors.

I am having the same issues and I have the same processor..
So it means we can't use background for now then? :'(

Actually, it seems to be more complicated.  I downgraded to Windows 10 and I am still having the same problem.  And with another computer, a desktop with an Intel processor, Core i7,  4 cores, 3.4 GHz, I am getting the same message, "Your device does not support Video Virtual Backgrounds."  And another laptop, with an Intel Core i5, 4 cores, 2.4 GHz, I have no problems with virtual backgrounds.  Something is wrong with Zoom.

I suspect that the problem  is the shared video memory. It is interesting that the face recognition features, like party hat and eyebrows, do not seem to need that video memory. Perhaps background recognition will catch up  soon.

Incidentally, last year their were party features like Christmas hats and antlers. I wonder when they will appear!

I think I know why the Core i7, 3.4 GHz is being rejected.  They want 6th generation or higher.  Mine is 3rd generation, while the Core i5, 2.4 GHz that is accepted, is 11th generation.

I think that they are OK with  i-5 and up. It seems to be that display memory.

Yet I am surprised that the filter gizmos like reindeer antlers can work when backgrounds do not.

There is even something to paint on lipstick! Maybe Zoom could add another filter to insert false teeth!

    PS to Zoom:

This site would be easier to use if the user interface is changed slightly:

    • Encourage the user to log in BEFORE typing a reply!
    • Use the word 'POST' or 'SEND' instead of repeating REPLY after 'preview'.

I see that I am in good company! It is interesting that Microsoft Teams has no difficulty with using backgrounds on this machine but Zoom has still not learned how to do it!

Maybe I should move over to Teams for my courses.

    Cheers

The avatars are fun, but is nobody listening to the pleas for backgrounds without green screen for W11?

I experienced the same thing,  I anticipate that this will be updated/fixed as soon as possible.

I do not know when it happened, but at last one of the Zoom updates has given me my backgrounds!
