Live stream to facebook failing

Running latest Zoom on a Laptop running Windows 10 (just re-installed Zoom so brand new).  All has been fine until a week ago when my C drive filled up.  Cleaned that up but now I can't stream to facebook.  I get the following message in the url line

 

https://zoom.us/client_facebook_signin?code_challenge=[a bunch of letters and numbers].

 

The error is:  This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action.  Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Setting page.

 

Ok, so the question is what file and what is the app??   Can't take any real action until I know that!  Is it Zoom, Facebook or some other app I don't have.  Both Zoom and Facebook are installed!

The fix is generally to re-establish the connection between the Zoom application and its special URL protocol handler.

Here are the steps to try, in order:

 

1. Try Re-registering Zoom (Easiest)

 

Since you just re-installed Zoom, the easiest way to ensure it correctly registers all its protocols with Windows is to:

  • Completely exit Zoom (ensure it's not running in the system tray).

  • Reboot your Laptop.

  • Relaunch Zoom and immediately try the Facebook Live connection again.

 

2. Manual Re-installation (Thorough Fix)

 

If a simple reboot doesn't work, perform a clean re-installation to force Windows to register the app again:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.

  • Find Zoom and select Uninstall.

  • Go to the Zoom Download Center (or search "Zoom download") and download the latest installer.

  • Run the installer and sign in.

 

3. Check/Reset Default Apps by Protocol (Advanced)

 

This is the most direct way to check the Default Apps settings mentioned in the error:

  1. Press the Windows Key and type "Default Apps" and open the setting page.

  2. Scroll down and click on the link that says "Choose default apps by protocol".

  3. In the list, you'll see various protocols (like HTTP, FTP, or internal ones like ZOOMMEETINGS).

  4. Scroll down the list and look for anything related to Zoom (it might be ZOOMMEETINGS, ZTLPROT, or similar).

  5. If any Zoom protocol is missing an associated app, or if it's set to an incorrect app, click on it and select Zoom Meetings (or the Zoom app) from the list.

If you can't find a Zoom protocol listed, the re-installation in step 2 is your best bet, as it should correctly write those entries to the Windows registry.
