Question

Always allow us to rearrange the screen

For Toastmaster meetings, we commonly rearrange the faces on the display so the Speaker image is close to the webcam.

Looking at the "webcam / Speaker image" simultaneously, gives the impression, to the Speaker, that the audience is listening.

If we cannot place the Speaker image close to the webcam, it appears to the Speaker, that the audience is not listening.

We do not want to give the impression that we are ignoring the Speaker, because it is a boring Speech.

I suspect that there are thousands of Toastmaster clubs who use Zoom.  There are quite likely more small groups than large groups who use Zoom.

It would be better if we could "always" rearrange the images on the screen, even if someone raises their hand.

Hi bhs67,

Thank you for sharing this thoughtful feedback — it’s a great example of how meeting layout and participant placement can make a real difference in engagement, especially for Toastmasters and other presentation-focused groups.

Currently, Zoom allows you to rearrange participant video tiles manually in Gallery View by clicking and dragging them into your preferred order. However, certain actions — such as someone raising their hand, joining/leaving the meeting, or switching views — can temporarily reset that custom arrangement.

Your suggestion to maintain a fixed custom layout even when participants raise their hands or other events occur is excellent and has been shared by other users who host interactive sessions. I recommend submitting this as a feature request through the Zoom Feedback Form (found at zoom.us/feed). This ensures your idea is reviewed directly by our product team for potential inclusion in future updates.

In the meantime, one workaround is to use “Follow Host’s Video Order” (available for meeting hosts) so that everyone sees the same participant arrangement — helpful when you want the speaker’s view to match the audience’s layout.

Thank you again for taking the time to explain how this impacts your meetings. Feedback like yours helps us continue improving the experience for presenters and audiences alike.

At https://support.zoom.com/hc/en/article?id=zm_kb&sysparm_article=KB0068808https://support.zoom.com/hc/en/article?id=zm_kb&sysparm_article=KB0068808 I see:

  • Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
  • In the top-right corner, click you profile picture.
  • Click Help, then click Give Feedback.

At us04web.zoom.us/myhome, I do not see "Help".   Please advise.

Thank you for the follow up, bhs67. Kindly confirm and check if you have the most recent version of the Zoom Workplace app. Another is, is your account a managed account? If the account is managed, ask your account admin to verify whether feedback submission is enabled.

It would be nice if there were a direct link, that does not have these restrictions!  Thanks!
