Using Custom Emojis in a chat - with keyboard

I have been searching form this everywhere before posting here.

Each custom emoji has a mandatory name like :Smile: however it is never possible to use this.

Can someone please explain how to use a custom emoji by its name, with the keyboard, without having to use the mouse and select it in a long list of emojis ?
