Chat appearance has turned black instead of white

If the chat window background turned black, it's usually due to Zoom's appearance settings or your system's dark mode. Try switching Zoom to Light mode under Settings > General > Theme, or disable dark mode in your operating system. If that doesn't help, restarting Zoom or updating to the latest version is worth trying.

Apparently some updates in the past two days made the zoom chat all dark again.  However, the option to turn off “Dark right panel” no longer exists anymore. What can we do to keep the main zoom window dark while the chat window white? It’s very hard to read the chat and emojis when the chat window is dark.

Dealt with this infuriating bug today--yes, everything was set to light mode as I never use dark mode, I tried restarting, all the options given earlier in this thread--and was unable to participate in a Zoom call at all because I couldn’t get chat out of dark mode.

After the meeting I tried the suggestion of uninstalling and reinstalling and thankfully, that worked. So I’m here to say if you’re still struggling with this and you’re on a Mac, try uninstalling and reinstalling. (No idea about PC.)
