Recurring Meetings being tanked?

Why did Zoom just prevent open recurring meetings? Every meeting has to be specifically scheduled now??

This is a terrible update to *require* all meetings to be scheduled. The recurring meeting days and times need to be optional, not requirements! 

Am I missing something?

I created an account to ask what's going on with this too. I am a private tutor and my students aren't always able to meet with me at a fixed time on specific days, and the sessions go on indefinitely. I really, really hope this isn't the direction they're taking Zoom. I hope this post gets more visibility.
