Use Firewall to Block Zoom Chat in academic settings

What URLs or IP Addresses govern Zoom Chat? I am OK with in-meeting chats but students are abusing out-of-meeting chat during the school day during class time. Students have been using their own free accounts to circumvent any security that we might have in place or use with our managed accounts.

@Jessekroh  You may want to try this, but this will be applied to EVERYONE in your account:

How to restrict the chat function of the Zoom app

  • Sign in to the Zoom Portal with your administrator account.
  • Click [Account Management] .
  • Click [ IM Management ] .
  • Select the [ IM Settings ] tab and click [Security] .
  • Uncheck (gray) the “Allow users to chat with other users” toggle.
  • When the confirmation window for setting changes pops up, click [Turn off].
  • Turn on (blue) the key mark to the right of the toggle. * By turning on the key mark, it will be enforced in the entire account, and each user cannot change this setting.

Students just use their own accounts. If we had control of that, we would do it.  Our only option is blocking chat via firewall rules or content filter.
